A video circulating on social media falsely claims to show actress Sydney Sweeney criticizing Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Odyssey’. The short clip depicts Sweeney seated at a laptop, appearing to voice strong disapproval of the movie, even coining it the “Transassey” and calling it a “dumpster fire.”
However, a closer examination reveals the video is an AI-generated fabrication. The clip itself contains an “Made with AI” label and concludes with a disclaimer stating, “Unreal: lacking in reality, substance, or genuineness.” The account that posted the video, “Maverick Alexander,” is known for creating satirical deepfake content. Further investigation confirmed that the same visual was used in July 2025 with different audio, where Sweeney discussed an American Eagle ad controversy.
The emergence of this fake video coincides with discussions surrounding Nolan’s adaptation of the classic Greek epic. Nolan himself has addressed such debates, drawing a parallel to his experience with the ‘Batman’ franchise. He stated that when working on ‘Batman Begins,’ creators had been developing the character for nearly 65 years, generating significant public opinion. Nolan emphasized that his takeaway from that trilogy was to disregard external concerns and instead focus on honoring the original text through his own strongest personal interpretation.
