Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning along Interstate 285 southbound near Glenwood Road in DeKalb County, Georgia.
According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire on the interstate shortly before 3:30 a.m. The victim was reportedly inside a vehicle when the shooting occurred.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a hospital. Initial reports described the victim as suffering serious injuries.
Victim Identified After Interstate Shooting
Later updates from local media reported that the victim was a 50-year-old man identified as Tywarn Jones, according to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities confirmed that the shooting took place on I-285 southbound near the Glenwood Road exit, a busy stretch of highway east of Atlanta.
Investigators have not yet released details about a suspect or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
Traffic Impacted During Investigation
The investigation temporarily disrupted traffic on the interstate early Tuesday morning.
Police blocked portions of the roadway while officers and crime scene investigators worked at the location. Traffic heading toward the Interstate 20 interchange experienced delays for several hours before lanes reopened.
By around 7 a.m., authorities cleared the scene and traffic flow returned to normal.
Motive Remains Unknown
Investigators have not yet determined what led to the shooting. Officials also have not confirmed whether the incident involved:
- a targeted shooting
- road rage
- or another type of dispute
DeKalb County police said the case remains under active investigation and additional information may be released as detectives gather more evidence.
