A disturbing video showing a woman’s body discovered amid dense bushes has been widely circulated online. The footage is being falsely claimed to depict a woman who was sexually assaulted and killed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters in West Bengal.
Social media users sharing the clip have posted captions such as, “According to reports, a little girl was brut@lly r@ped and murdered by BJP Goons in West Bengal.”
An investigation revealed that the video has no connection to West Bengal. Instead, the footage originates from Bangladesh, documenting the tragic killing of a 28-year-old woman and her young son.
INVESTIGATION DETAILS
A reverse image search of keyframes from the video led to a Bangladeshi Facebook page named Bhola TV, which uploaded the identical clip on August 21. The accompanying caption indicated that the incident occurred in the Shibchar region of Madaripur, located in the Dhaka division of Bangladesh.
Subsequent searches matched the details with reports from prominent Bangladeshi media outlets, including Jugantor, Prothom Alo, and Bangladesh Pratidin. These reports confirm that a 28-year-old woman named Shampa Khatun was assaulted and killed in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district, while her one-year-old son, Abir, was allegedly thrown into the Arial Khan River.
Law enforcement recovered Shampa’s body on August 19 in the Bakherkandi area of Madborchar Union. Police stated that she had been married to Md Shahabuddin Hawlader for about three years. While her husband was incarcerated over a separate legal matter, Shampa grew close to Faruk Molla, a local resident of Bakherkandi.
According to investigators, Faruk lured Shampa to his residence, where the assault and murder took place before her body was disposed of in the nearby shrubbery. Authorities subsequently arrested Faruk and recovered personal belongings belonging to the victim, such as a gold nose pin and a silver necklace.
The evidence conclusively proves that the viral video stems from a crime in Bangladesh and is entirely unrelated to West Bengal.
