Claim: Donald Trump claims sole capability to tame inflation
The rumor began spreading on X, featuring a purported transcript of a back-and-forth between Trump and a journalist during an Oval Office press briefing. According to the post, Trump stated, “No one can control inflation better than me.”
The fictional reporter allegedly fired back, “No way. Diesel jumped to its highest price in history today.”
The fabricated exchange claimed that Trump defended the spike as a positive development, arguing that higher prices would lead to reduced diesel consumption and, consequently, lower pollution levels.
While many social media users reacted with sharp criticism—apparently taking the post at face value—others questioned its validity, sparking the need for verification.

Trump blames economic trends on ‘stupidity’
Addressing reporters on Friday, September 4, following a robust August jobs report, Trump offered his perspective on economic policy, stating, “When you have bad numbers, it goes up because of the stupidity of the way they think about inflation, and growth does not cause inflation; stupidity causes inflation!”
“We have to change our ways. The stock market should go UP. We’re just doing so well. Watch, the stock market will go down because we have good numbers; every time you have good numbers, the stock market goes down,” he added.
