Fact Check: Is Mike Pence implicated in DOJ’s investigation of John Bolton?

WASHINGTON, DC — Amid ongoing conversations surrounding high-profile political investigations, a viral post on X has generated widespread speculation regarding former Vice President Mike Pence and former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

The social media post alleged that both figures were tied to a Department of Justice (DOJ) probe encompassing a wide array of serious accusations. A closer look reveals the facts behind the claim.

### The Claim: Mike Pence Tied to DOJ Probe Involving John Bolton

The rumor gained traction following a post from an X account named DeepLeaksHQ, which asserted that former Vice President Mike Pence had been entangled in a DOJ investigation concerning John Bolton.

The post alleged that Pence was implicated in several major controversies, including the handling of General Michael Flynn, the possession of classified materials, and the events of January 6. It further claimed that Pence was under scrutiny for leaking classified national security data from the Trump administration to left-leaning media outlets, suggesting that both Pence and Bolton were facing impending federal indictments.

The post quickly drew massive online engagement, pulling in nearly half a million views and sparking confusion among users questioning the validity of the assertions.

### Fact Check: False

The allegations circulating online are entirely unfounded.

While former National Security Adviser John Bolton faced legal scrutiny—ultimately pleading guilty in June 2026 to willfully retaining national defense information and agreeing to a multi-million-dollar fine—official DOJ statements, court records, and reliable news reporting contain no mention of Mike Pence being linked to Bolton’s case.

Furthermore, there is no active joint investigation involving Pence, nor is he facing charges related to General Flynn, the events of January 6, or unauthorized leaks of White House secrets.

Regarding past inquiries, the Justice Department did previously examine classified documents found at Pence’s Indiana residence in early 2023. However, Pence fully cooperated, and the DOJ officially closed that inquiry in June 2023 without filing criminal charges.

As for historical claims regarding General Flynn, official records and investigations have consistently shown that Flynn misled Pence regarding his communications with the Russian ambassador, rather than being framed by the former vice president. Similarly, while Pence cooperated as a witness in investigations tied to January 6, he has never been charged with any related crimes, and no credible evidence supports claims that he is currently under investigation for leaking sensitive security information.
