WASHINGTON, DC: A compilation of aerial footage is currently making the rounds online, purporting to capture nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations across major US urban centers—including Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago, New York, San Diego, and Boston—in October 2026. Because the clips showcase massive crowds in multiple cities simultaneously, they have quickly gone viral. Let’s examine the validity of these claims.

Numerous accounts on X shared the aerial video montage, suggesting it depicted gatherings held on October 17 as part of the “No Kings: Vote Early” initiative across Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago, New York, San Diego, and Boston.
According to its official platform, NoKings.org, the “No Kings” coalition positions itself as a movement opposing authoritarian leadership and targetting US President Donald Trump alongside his administration. The group’s website further emphasizes that these gatherings are nonpartisan and intended to boost voter turnout among all eligible citizens.
The video gained massive traction after being shared by a Facebook user on October 17, quickly racking up millions of views alongside the caption, “When citizens stand together and make their voices heard, the country should pay attention.”
The same poster later doubled down in a follow-up post, asserting that the footage captured weekend demonstrations that were allegedly being ignored by mainstream media and suppressed on social media platforms.
Similar versions of the video spread rapidly across Bluesky, Facebook, and X, with many users and commenters firmly believing the footage documented recent weekend events.
Fact Check: The circulating posts feature mislabeled footage
While the video footage itself is genuine, the associated captions are entirely misleading. Rather than depicting the October 2026 events cited in recent social media posts, the clips actually document “No Kings” rallies that took place a full year earlier, on October 18, 2025.
Indivisible, a progressive activist group that serves as one of the core partner organizations listed on NoKings.org, originally posted this exact video montage across Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, and other channels on October 18, 2025. Numerous other accounts shared the exact same compilation around that time.
A thorough reverse image search confirms that the individual clips and photographs match documentation from the 2025 protests across all eight highlighted cities, including Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago, New York, San Diego, and Boston.
During the original 2025 demonstrations, fact-checkers also had to debunk claims suggesting that aerial coverage of the Boston rally—broadcast by MS NOW (formerly MSNBC)—had been misattributed to older events from 2017.
This is not the first time the 2025 footage has been recycled; earlier in 2026, social media users similarly repurposed the same clips to falsely represent “No Kings” rallies held on March 28.
In reality, the most recent “No Kings: Vote Early” event took place on Saturday and featured a markedly different format, drawing smaller crowds than previous major rallies.
Rather than large-scale marches, organizers centered their efforts on the upcoming midterm elections through community-focused gatherings like cookouts and block parties. Authentic visual evidence of these actual community events has also been shared online by Indivisible.
