Comedian Tim Allen authored an extensive Facebook post targeting liberals and Democratic politicians, outlining “some interesting points to think about prior to 2020, especially to my friends on the fence.”
A Facebook post falsely attributed to actor Tim Allen resurfaced in October, featuring a series of sharp criticisms aimed at Democrats and liberals.
Although this rumor was initially debunked back in September 2019, the text has repeatedly made the rounds online. Shared alongside a photograph of Allen, the October post included statements such as:
Tim Allen wrote… Here are some interesting points to think about prior to 2020, especially to my friends on the fence, like moderate Democrats, Libertarians and Independents and the never Trump Republicans and those thinking of “walking away” from the Democratic party:
– Women are upset at Trump’s naughty words –they also bought 80 million copies of 50 Shades of Gray.
– Not one feminist has defended Sarah Sanders. It seems women’s rights only matter if those women are liberal.
– No Border Walls. No voter ID laws. Did you figure it out yet? But wait… there’s more…
– Chelsea Clinton got out of college and got a job at NBC that paid $900,000 per year. Her mom flies around the country speaking out about white privilege. And just like that, they went from being against foreign interference in our elections to allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections.
– President Trump’s wall costs less than the Obamacare website. Let that sink in, America!
– We are one election away from open borders, socialism, gun confiscation, and full-term abortion nationally. We are fighting evil.
Despite the viral nature of the post, the actor and comedian had nothing to do with it. A thorough check of his verified social media accounts and past interviews yields zero proof that he ever made such remarks, leading to an incorrect attribution rating.
Investigations into the origin of the text traced an early iteration back to an August 2019 post published by a Facebook user in Virginia who happened to share the same name.
Musician Ted Nugent shared a modified variant of the text that same month without linking it to Allen. By that point, the text had been circulating for months, stitched together from various unrelated internet memes:
Pearls of wisdom
Life is not a fairy tale. If you lose your shoe at midnight, you’re drunk.
If women are upset at Trump’s naughty words, who in the hell bought 80 million copies of ’50 Shades of Gray’?
Jim Comey answered, “I don’t know,” “I don’t recall,” and “I don’t remember” 236 times while under oath. But he remembered enough to write a book.
President Trump should nominate Hillary Clinton for the next opening on the supreme court. Then he can finally get her investigated.
Not one feminist has defended Sarah Sanders. It seems women’s rights only matter if those women are liberal.
No Border Walls. No voter ID laws. You figured it out yet?
Chelsea Clinton got out of college and got a job at NBC that paid $900,000 per year. Her mom flies around the country speaking out about white privilege.
Previous findings show that the commentary warning about being “one election away from open borders, socialism, gun confiscation, and full-term abortion nationally” originally circulated as a standalone meme in January 2019. Similarly, the line regarding “foreign interference” first appeared in separate social media posts in April 2019.
While Allen has openly discussed his conservative political leanings—notably comparing the experience of being a conservative in Hollywood to 1930s Germany during a 2017 interview—he has also publicly criticized political extremism, calling the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol “horrible, embarrassing, and shameful.”
Misattributing political commentary to famous figures is a recurring online trend. For instance, fact-checkers previously investigated a fabricated deepfake video featuring Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour discussing why she allegedly banned Donald Trump from the Met Gala.
