Fact Check: Did Trump claim JD Vance is trying to force him out of office?

Viral posts are circulating, suggesting a significant chill in the dynamic between Donald Trump and JD Vance.

WASHINGTON, DC: Speculation is running high across X (formerly Twitter) concerning a supposed widening chasm between President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

One highly circulated post asserts that Trump has accused Vance of attempting to undermine his presidency and that communication between them has ceased.

Further elaborating on these claims, the post alleges that a significant New York Times report exposed Vance’s involvement in multiple clandestine meetings where he advocated for the disclosure of Jeffrey Epstein-related allegations that could potentially implicate the president. As these assertions gain traction on social media, many are left wondering about the veracity of this supposed discord.

The Allegation: Donald Trump Implicates JD Vance in a Plot to Oust Him from the Presidency

An account on X, identified as The Halfway Post, has been instrumental in spreading posts that suggest a falling out between President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

One of these widely shared posts declared, “BREAKING: Donald Trump is reportedly furious with JD Vance for leaking to the New York Times about all the top secret Epstein Files meetings, and Trump is accusing Vance of plotting to force him out of the presidency.”

Following this, another post stated, “BREAKING: Donald Trump is reportedly not talking to JD Vance anymore after the New York Times published the bombshell story reporting how Vance held multiple secret meetings behind his back to advocate for releasing allegations in the Epstein Files that incriminated him.”

The same account further suggested that the relationship between Trump and Vance had reached an unprecedented level of tension, claiming that Vance had repeatedly leaked information concerning the Epstein files and the Iran conflict to the media as a strategy to distance himself from Trump’s perceived failures and declining legacy. At the time of this report, one of these posts had garnered over 117.6K views and sparked numerous discussions.

These assertions were echoed in an article published on a website, carrying the headline, “Trump And JD Vance Are Not Talking After Vance’s ‘Disloyal Leaks.'”

The article alleged that the 80-year-old President was incensed by Vance’s supposed leaks of private meeting details concerning the Epstein files to The New York Times and accused the Vice President of maneuvering to oust him from the presidency.

Fact Check: The Claim of Trump Accusing Vance of a Plot to Remove Him is Unsubstantiated

The narrative suggesting a breakdown in the relationship between Donald Trump and JD Vance appears to be unfounded, as there is no corroboration from any reputable news outlets.

Furthermore, the origin of these claims can be traced back to a satire account. The bio for The Halfway Post explicitly states: “Halfway true comedy and satire for your doomscrolling by @DashMacIntyre. I don’t report the facts, I improve them.”

The basis for these circulating claims seems to stem from a New York Times report detailing internal discussions within the White House regarding the handling of the Epstein files. According to the report, senior administration officials engaged in official meetings to strategize responses to criticism surrounding the Justice Department’s management of the Epstein case.

During these discussions, Vance reportedly voiced concerns that the Epstein issue posed a significant challenge for the MAGA movement and suggested releasing more information to appease the concerns of the president’s supporters. While some officials reportedly held differing views on his proposed approach, leading to internal policy debates on the extent of public disclosure, the report did not indicate any clandestine meetings, leaks to the press, or plotting against the president by Vance. Crucially, the Times piece made no mention of Trump ceasing communication with Vance or any ongoing feud between the two.
