Did Elon Musk say he has a ‘plan’ to prevent Democrats from winning midterms? Don’t be fooled

Rating:

Fake

For more than a year, social media users have been sharing what is claimed to be a screenshot of a post authored by Elon Musk on X, featuring the text: “No one needs to worry about Democrats winning the midterm elections. I have a plan.”

This supposed screenshot has made the rounds across various platforms, including X and Reddit. In response, curious readers reached out to ask us to verify whether the image is authentic.

However, a thorough search of Musk’s official X profile yielded no trace of any such publication. Furthermore, none of the circulating screenshots feature timestamps or other metadata that would point to authenticity, strongly suggesting the message was never posted and subsequently deleted. If the image were real, multiple independent users would likely have captured varying screenshots of the active post.

Similarly, inquiries into an independent archive tracking Musk’s public statements returned zero relevant matches. Searches across Google, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo also confirmed that no mainstream news organizations have reported on this alleged remark.

Consequently, we have classified the screenshot as completely fabricated.

The earliest known instance of this fake post surfaced in August 2025, shared by a Threads user operating under the handle @powermacuser12.

Accompanying the fabricated image, that user alleged that Musk had “rigged the vote tabulation computers in the swing states to ensure Trump won the 2024 election, & he’s obviously planning on cheating again in the midterm elections.”

“He should be hauled into jail by the FBI for his post below,” the Threads user added, gesturing toward the fake screenshot.

We reached out to the account owner on Threads to inquire about the origin of the image and are currently awaiting a reply.

Fact-checkers have previously found no validity to claims that Musk manipulated the 2024 election outcome in favor of Donald Trump via his Starlink satellite network. In practice, the vast majority of election infrastructure relies on closed, offline networks, rendering any connection to Starlink functionally impossible.
