Fact Check: Did Eric Trump accuse Volodymyr Zelenskyy of interfering in US elections?

The rumor emerged online following outspoken criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding a fuel agreement between Washington and Moscow.

WASHINGTON, DC: In the wake of Ukraine’s dissatisfaction with a recent US-Russia diesel agreement, a viral social media rumor claimed that Eric Trump, son of President Donald Trump, publicly accused Volodymyr Zelenskyy of meddling in American elections by targeting Russian data centers with cyber or physical attacks. Given the sensitive nature of the allegation, a thorough investigation was necessary.

The Rumor: Did Eric Trump allege Ukrainian election interference?

The narrative first appeared on Facebook presented as a legitimate Fox News graphic. The fake quote attributed to Eric Trump read: “How come the media is not crying ‘Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine’? It is Zelenskyy and Ukraine interfering in our elections by bombing the Russian data centers.”

While tens of thousands viewed the post, it quickly spread to X (formerly Twitter) and Threads. Many users took the graphic at face value, while others expressed immediate doubt regarding its validity.

Fact Check: The statement is entirely fabricated

Our investigation confirms the claim is completely false. There is zero record of Eric Trump making any such remark targeting Ukraine or its head of state.

A review of public records reveals no recent press releases, official statements, interviews, or social media posts from Eric Trump that align with the quote.

With upcoming midterm elections just weeks away, a prominent political figure accusing a foreign government of election interference would undoubtedly capture major headlines.

Furthermore, Fox News has published no such report, and the network’s official broadcast archives contain no matching graphic.

Closer inspection of the viral image reveals clear markers of parody: it features a “Mrs Putin Satire” watermark, misspells the news network as “Fox Mews,” alters Eric Trump’s name to “Erica Turnip Jr,” and refers to him as the “Son of Dotard Turnip.”

The satirical post arrived amidst heightened tensions after Zelenskyy openly criticized the diesel trade between the US and Russia. In response, President Donald Trump publicly suggested that Ukraine would benefit from new leadership, asserting that Zelenskyy had repeatedly missed opportunities to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict.

“I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does,” Trump remarked.

The President added, “Zelenskyy could have settled this war many times, many, many times, and he chooses not to. Very difficult. It’s a war that should have never been started. If I were present, if the election weren’t rigged, I would have been president and that war would have never started.”
