The speculation gained traction following a post by Trump on Truth Social, where he wrote, “Many people think that the words ‘Artificial Intelligence’ are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence.”
“A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomenon would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI),” he added, while encouraging the public to submit alternative suggestions.
Past geographic renaming efforts amid diplomatic frictions
The satirical AI rumor closely mirrored actual geographic rebranding initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration amid ongoing trade tensions with Canada regarding tariffs. These actions included an executive order instructing federal agencies to substitute the Gulf of Mexico with the ‘Gulf of America’ and renaming Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America.’
“As you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico, we changed it, and now it’s very routinely the Gulf of America,” Trump remarked.
