A widely shared online image falsely claimed that Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Volodymyr Zelenskyy over attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
WASHINGTON, DC: Against the backdrop of a new energy arrangement between the United States and Russia involving substantial diesel imports, a fabricated rumor began spreading across social media platforms. The online chatter alleged that President Donald Trump had publicly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries and shift his military focus elsewhere. According to the claims, this directive originated directly from Trump’s Truth Social feed.
The purported post quickly gained traction online, sparking heavy debates regarding whether the US leader had officially rebuked Kyiv for targeting Russian energy facilities. The fake graphic appeared to show Trump not only condemning the refinery attacks over fears of rising global fuel costs but also threatening to substitute traditional military assistance with non-traditional supplies.
The Rumor: Did Donald Trump demand that Volodymyr Zelenskyy change targets?

The hoax materialized as a screenshot supposedly capturing a message posted to Trump’s official Truth Social account.
The bogus text read: “What part of ‘LEAVE THE REFINERIES ALONE!’ did Volodymyr Zelenskyy not understand?”
It continued, “I specifically said, ‘There are plenty of other targets!’ Attacking oil refineries affects global energy markets, drives up fuel prices, and impacts everyone. Refineries are OFF THE TABLE! This affects all of us!”
“But ohhh, no! Apparently, that message was too complicated to understand, so he went ahead and did it anyway.”
The fake post concluded with a satirical jab: “Effective immediately, we will be replacing military aid and weapons shipments with thoughts, prayers, and Top Ramen coupons. Good luck, and may the noodles be ever in your favor!”
Numerous accounts on X shared the image, pushing it past hundreds of thousands of views as users mistakenly treated it as a genuine presidential statement.
Reality Check: The viral screenshot is entirely fake

Verification efforts confirm that the claim is completely unfounded and the image was digitally manufactured. No matching statement ever appeared on any of Trump’s verified social media channels.
A thorough review of his official Truth Social profile, alongside automated X archiving services that track his public updates in real time, revealed zero records of the quoted remarks.
Further checks via search engines to see if a matching post had been published and quickly deleted also turned up empty. Because of this, the image holds zero legitimacy as an official record of Trump’s views, making the attribution of these specific threats entirely false.
Trump advocates for a change in Ukraine’s leadership

The appearance of the forged screenshot coincided with heightened geopolitical friction surrounding the US-Russia diesel agreement and open pushback from Zelenskyy regarding the pact. Amid these disagreements, Trump openly suggested that Ukraine would benefit from new leadership, arguing that the current administration had missed numerous opportunities to secure a peace agreement.
“I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does,” Trump remarked.
He added, “Zelenskyy could have settled this war many times, many, many times, and he chooses not to. Very difficult. It’s a war that should have never been started. If I were present, if the election weren’t rigged, I would have been president and that war would have never started.”
While political disagreements over the conflict and energy trade remain very real, they do not validate the authenticity of the fabricated online post.
