Social media users have been sharing a viral screenshot purportedly showing a Truth Social message from Donald Trump
WASHINGTON, DC: A rumor currently making the rounds online alleges that President Donald Trump has demanded Vice President JD Vance’s resignation. The fabricated post accuses Vance of fraud and criticizes him for allegedly changing his name three times. Given the heavy traction the claim has gained, a closer look at the facts is required.
Claim: Donald Trump called for JD Vance’s resignation

The rumor gained momentum through a circulated image that mimics an authentic post from Trump’s official Truth Social account.
The fake message reads: “It was just revealed that JD Vance‘s name is not JD Vance, the one he used to get elected and sworn in as Vice President, but rather, he was born JAMES DONALD BOWMAN!”
It continues, “He then went by JAMES DAVID HAMEL before changing his name AGAIN to JAMES DAVID VANCE! THREE DIFFERENT NAMES! Because he was born under an entirely different name, I assume he must IMMEDIATELY resign as Vice President!”
The text concludes, “Please inform Speaker of the House James Michael Johnson that the Republican Party has just conceded the Vice Presidency! James Donald Bowman, also known as James David Hamel, also known as JD Vance, must explain this tremendous NAME FRAUD! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
While some users quickly dismissed the image as a fabrication, millions viewed it under the assumption that it was a genuine statement from the president.
Fact Check: Donald Trump never published this statement

In reality, the claim is entirely unfounded. A thorough review of Trump’s verified Truth Social profile reveals no such post. Furthermore, digital archives that track and store his social media activity show zero records matching the circulating text.
Similar investigations across his other active social media pages, including Facebook and X, confirm that no such message was ever published.
Had the sitting president truly called for his vice president to step down over a name discrepancy, major media networks would have reported on it immediately. However, standard news searches return no credible reports of any such event.

Observers note that the fake post appears to be a satirical copycat of a real-world instance where Trump targeted Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar. In that genuine instance, he demanded her resignation and accused her of fraud following reports regarding her name history.
That political controversy followed a federal court document referencing the Minnesota representative as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
A closer inspection of the viral Vance screenshot also reveals an ‘AI’ label near the bottom, pointing to the likelihood that the image was synthetically generated using artificial intelligence tools.
