Following his October 5 campaign appearance in Ohio, posts began surfacing online alleging that Trump stated he would withhold federal financial support should the state vote for Democrats.

One widely shared Facebook message stated, “BREAKING: Trump announces he will withhold federal funding from Ohio if they vote blue in November.”

The rumor gained traction across multiple platforms like X, Instagram, and Threads, accumulating millions of views. While some users treated the report as fact, others immediately questioned its authenticity.

Fact Check: Misleading — No Direct Threat Was Made

The online claim is largely misleading. While Trump strongly urged voters to support Republicans in the midterms and signaled that cooperation with the state might be more difficult if Democrats take power, he did not explicitly threaten to withhold federal funds.

“Just get out and vote,” Trump told the crowd at the rally held for GOP candidates, including US Senate hopeful Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. “If you do that, we’re going to win, and we’re going to win big, and we’re going to shove it up their ass.”

Despite his sharp rhetoric regarding political outcomes, an outright declaration to strip federal funding from the historically Republican-leaning state was not actually delivered.

During his remarks in Vandalia, Trump painted a picture of a thriving Ohio, pointing to major economic investments. These included a $400 million commitment from Stellantis in Toledo, an $850 million project by Electra aerospace near Springfield, and significant corporate backing, which he attributed to his administration’s trade and tariff strategies.

“Your state is booming,” Trump told attendees. “Every state is booming.”

Addressing state legislative matters, he remarked, “We want them. There’s so much money to be made for Ohio. You can’t just turn them off. They’ll go to China,” referencing Husted’s Ratepayer Protection Act, which is designed to protect consumers from extra electricity expenses tied to data centers.

Trump also voiced backing for local Representative Mike Turner and other House candidates present at the event, such as Derek Merrin, who is challenging long-serving Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur in Northwest Ohio.
