Fact Check: Did WH misspell United States in Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ accord?

Donald Trump signs the ‘super intelligence’ accord designed to ease anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence.

WASHINGTON, DC: Following President Donald Trump‘s signing of a new agreement aimed at addressing concerns over Artificial Intelligence, social media has been buzzing with a peculiar rumor: the official document allegedly misspells “United States” as “Unites States.” Naturally, the claim quickly triggered demands for a thorough fact-check.

The chatter began spreading online in late September, suggesting that the White House had blundered the country’s name on its “super intelligence” accord.

The document was officially executed on September 29, when Trump and a gathering of prominent tech executives met at the White House to tackle growing fears regarding the future trajectory of AI. Alongside the voluntary accord, an executive order was rolled out, officially rebranding “artificial intelligence” as “super intelligence” (or “SI”).

Users across X, Facebook, and Bluesky posted snapshots of the signed paperwork to highlight the typo. While many netizens treated the typo as genuine, a skeptical faction argued it was fabricated and demanded proof.

Fact Check: The typo is real

As it turns out, the online rumor is entirely accurate. An image of the document shared on the official White House X account clearly displays the typo directly beneath Trump’s signature, reading “President of the Unites States.”

A closer inspection of the paperwork reveals other formatting oddities as well—for instance, the word “joint” near the top appears misaligned, suggesting a possible late addition.

Although the pages lacked a formal letterhead or standard governmental seal, the header explicitly established its origin, reading: “White House Accord on Super Intelligence.”

The spelling mistake is located on the second page, which bears Trump’s signature alongside those of Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, “XAI” CEO Elon Musk, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Executive Order formally replaces “AI” with “SI”

The administration’s executive order outlined the rationale behind dropping “AI” in favor of “SI,” explaining that federal terminology ought to better mirror the groundbreaking potential of these technologies and the expansive horizons they open up for Americans.

“Accordingly, the term ‘Super Intelligence’ more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies.”

“It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in place of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’ and will not acknowledge the usage of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI’ in any applicable setting.”
