The day after the event, President Trump took to Truth Social to share his assessment: “The Republican Midterm Convention last night, in Dallas, was a major, sold-out hit, far bigger, better, and more important than anyone thought possible.”
He added, “It was really something, streaming all over the place, and really big numbers, despite going up against the NFL. The overall numbers beat the NFL.”
Backing up these sentiments, Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz posted on X that livestreams on the official @TeamTrump TikTok account accumulated over 70 million combined impressions across the first two nights. The White House also pointed to a Breitbart article echoing similar high-engagement figures.
### Fact Check: The claim is misleading
Despite the high impression counts touted by campaign officials, media analysts emphasize that online impressions are not a direct measurement of unique reach or traditional viewership.
Senior analyst Nick Reiners noted that social media impressions are “not comparable to Nielsen ratings in any meaningful sense.”
For perspective, data from NBC Sports shows that the NFL season opener between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots—broadcast simultaneously with Trump’s address—drew 25.1 million television viewers.
By comparison, traditional television and cable broadcasts of Trump’s first-night speech brought in significantly smaller audiences: Fox News averaged 2.5 million viewers, Newsmax drew approximately 400,000, and NewsNation recorded about 125,000.
