Is video of baby born with mustache real or fake?

A viral video circulating online claims to show a newborn infant sitting up in a hospital bed with a full-grown mustache. However, this clip is entirely fake and was generated using artificial intelligence.

The Viral Claim

In late October, a short video began spreading rapidly across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The footage depicts what appears to be a newborn baby—supposedly just moments old—propped against a hospital pillow while sporting a thick mustache above its lip and additional facial hair below its chin.

The post quickly gained traction, with users joking that the infant had skipped childhood entirely and gone straight to a midlife crisis, or comparing the child to Pubert Addams from The Addams Family. Commenters also speculated wildly about the baby’s origins, with various posts claiming the birth took place in Colombia or Ecuador. Others questioned whether the baby suffered from congenital hypertrichosis (a rare medical condition causing excessive hair growth) or if the video was created using AI.

Investigating the Footage

A closer technical review of the video reveals several clear indicators of AI generation:

  • Inconsistent Features: As the baby turns its head from side to side, the facial hair visibly shifts and alters. In one frame, hair is clearly visible beneath the lower lip, but it disappears entirely when the infant turns back. Additionally, a distinct skin blemish abruptly appears under the baby’s right eye later in the clip where it was not previously visible.
  • Standard AI Duration and Frame Rate: The video runs for exactly 10 seconds at 24 frames per second with no missing or added frames—a hallmark format for many AI video-generation tools, such as Google Gemini.
  • Platform Disclosure: Tracing the footage back to its earliest appearances on TikTok reveals that one of the initial uploaders, a user named Soy Yare (@yarel0725), explicitly applied TikTok’s official “Contains AI-generated media” label to clarify that the video was synthetically created or altered.

Another user who later shared the video admitted in private messages that they had used an AI tool merely to remove a watermark from an already existing AI-generated file.

Because of the telltale digital artifacts, structural inconsistencies, and disclosure labels on early uploads, the claim that a baby was born with a mustache is definitively false.
