A June 2023 X post attributed to U.S. Vice President JD Vance gained traction online, featuring the statement: “In this house we believe: Black Lives Matter. No human is illegal. Prigozhin is a Liberal reformer. Love is love.”
This post was shared by various X users, with some interpreting it as a reflection of Vance’s political journey, noting his past criticisms of Donald Trump before appearing on the 2024 presidential ticket with him.
The X post is indeed real, with Vance having shared it on June 25, 2023. In a subsequent post, he added, “Everyone update their signs.” This comment refers to a popular yard sign that emerged after Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory, which included phrases like “In this house, we believe: Black Lives Matter. Women’s rights are human rights. No human is illegal. Science is real. Love is love. Kindness is everything.”
While some online observers interpreted Vance’s post as an indication of more liberal views prior to his vice presidential candidacy, a spokesperson for his office stated that the post was intended satirically, as a joke to mock liberal viewpoints.
The reference to Yevgeny Prigozhin as a “liberal reformer” is particularly notable. Prigozhin was a Russian oligarch whose Wagner Group forces staged a mutiny against the Russian military in June 2023, just weeks before his death. At the time of Vance’s post, the Wagner Group had just concluded its failed uprising. Later, U.S. intelligence indicated that Prigozhin’s plane crash was caused by an intentional explosion, with the White House suggesting the Kremlin’s involvement.
