In reality, this narrative started as a piece of satire. A review of Fox News archives yielded no broadcasts or publications supporting the claim. Furthermore, searches across major search engines found zero credible journalistic coverage of any such blockade. A real-world incident involving a national government halting international shipping over a naming dispute would undoubtedly draw widespread mainstream attention.
The Canadian side of the Welland Canal is managed by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. Representatives for the organization confirmed that commercial traffic has experienced no disruptions.
