In mid-August 2026, social media users began circulating a rumor claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump had published a derogatory online message targeting service members stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
Accounts across platforms shared an image purporting to be a capture of a Truth Social post from Trump. The fabricated text read, “Only suckers and losers would enlist, go to sea on an aircraft carrier, and then complain and send their family nasty notes about our military. They weren’t at sea long enough.”
The graphic also appeared to feature supplementary text added by a social media user, which claimed, “not the first time he called them suckered or losers.”

The fabrication emerged amid news stories regarding sailors attempting to jump overboard due to mental health strains stemming from an extended deployment. According to reports, Trump remarked on August 14, 2026, that the deployment duration was “not nearly long enough.”
Because the alleged screenshot spread rapidly, multiple readers reached out to verify its legitimacy.
The post is entirely fictitious. Comprehensive searches of Trump’s official X and Truth Social profiles, alongside a preserved archive of his digital statements, turned up no such remarks.
Furthermore, the layout of the screenshot fails to match the authentic formatting of Truth Social. It lacked the indicator badge for “Truth+,” the platform’s subscription tier, and utilized an incorrect font type.
Closer inspection revealed that the overlaid text visibly intersected with the interface’s standard icons—a glitch that would not happen on a genuine screenshot. Evidence suggests the creator took an older post and superimposed new text over it.
A Google reverse image search of the graphic yielded only posts from individuals sharing the fabricated image, while a TinEye search produced zero matches.
This visual hoax coincided with broader media coverage regarding difficult living conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln. At the time, the vessel had been deployed for a record-breaking nine months of uninterrupted sea time, noted The Associated Press. While reports detailed psychological strain and resource shortages, Trump publicly downplayed these concerns.
On August 17, U.S. Central Command leader Adm. Brad Cooper addressed conditions on the vessel in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece after touring the ship, stating, “Issues related to food, hot water and other concerns raised months ago were addressed by leadership and resolved.” The White House also highlighted Cooper’s visit through an official release directing readers to his essay.
