A social media post falsely claimed that singer Billie Eilish’s New York City residence was targeted by thieves shortly after she allegedly praised the city’s safety. The circulating narrative suggested Eilish had stated she felt secure enough in New York to leave her doors unlocked, only to return and find her home robbed.
However, no evidence supports these assertions. A thorough search for credible news reports or statements from Eilish regarding her feelings about New York City’s safety or any alleged home invasion yielded no results. The claim appears to have originated from a satirical Facebook page, “America’s Last Line Of Defense,” which explicitly states that its content is not factual.
This misinformation emerged around the time New York City authorities reported a significant drop in several crime categories during January 2026. The city experienced its safest January on record, with historically low numbers of murders and shootings. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch attributed this positive trend to data-driven policing strategies. While overall major crimes saw a slight decrease, there was an observed rise in certain areas, such as transit crime. Official figures indicated a decrease in shooting incidents and victims compared to previous years, with January 2026 setting new all-time lows. Murders also reached their lowest point for the month, surpassing previous records, and Manhattan and Staten Island reported no homicides throughout January.
