The rumor gained traction following a Facebook post which read, “In a major setback for Donald J. Trump, the government of Iran announced on Thursday that it would only reopen the Strait of Hormuz when he admits he lost the 2020 election.”
The fabricated quote attributed to Iranian officials included highly informal and aggressive language, reading: “The whole world knows you lost, moron. Stop being such a f***ing baby.”
Furthermore, the post asserted that Tehran wanted Trump to accept blame for the deterioration of the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool, framing these conditions as absolute and non-negotiable.
