Fact Check: Did Obama’s company pay Tucker Carlson $40M before he criticized Trump?

A viral social media claim alleged that an entity named ‘Obamacorp’ transferred $40 million to Tucker Carlson’s LLC prior to his remarks criticizing Donald Trump, implying his commentary was financially motivated.

WASHINGTON, DC: An unverified rumor circulating online regarding a massive payout to political commentator Tucker Carlson has generated intense debate concerning his recent remarks about President Donald Trump.

According to the online narrative, a company associated with Barack Obama reportedly funneled $40 million through an LLC owned by Carlson just days before he voiced public criticism of Trump. Let’s examine the facts behind this assertion.

Claim: Tucker Carlson turned against Trump after receiving a $40M payout from Obama’s company

The rumor initially surfaced via an X (formerly Twitter) account, pushing the narrative that Carlson’s shift in stance on Trump had nothing to do with policy differences like the “America First” agenda or conflicts involving Iran. Instead, the post alleged financial backing from a corporate entity belonging to Barack Obama.

The message read, “The real reason Tucker flipped just came out. It wasn’t ‘America First.’ It wasn’t the war in Iran. A company owned by Barack Obama paid him $40 million.”

The user further asserted that the transaction was a matter of public record.

“According to public records, Obamacorp, the for-profit arm of Obama’s financial holdings, sent the payment to Carlson’s LLC just one week before he went live and smeared President Trump’s good name,” the post stated.

Concluding the thread, the account attempted to discredit Carlson’s commentary, implying his criticisms were manufactured and monetarily driven.

Fact Check: False, no evidence supports the viral allegation

There is no truth to this claim. Thorough investigations reveal zero evidence that Barack Obama, or any organization operating under the name “Obamacorp,” transferred $40 million to Tucker Carlson. No legitimate financial filings, public documents, or trusted news outlets contain any record of such a company or transaction.

Notably, the viral post failed to provide verified financial documents, pointing instead to a Telegram invitation link alongside a digitally manipulated image featuring Carlson and Obama.

While Obama’s post-presidency business ventures—such as Higher Ground Productions, the Obama Foundation, book publishing agreements, and public speaking engagements—are well-documented, none of his known enterprises operate under the moniker “Obamacorp,” nor do they show any financial ties to Carlson.

Carlson’s recent friction with Trump supporters has primarily stemmed from debates over foreign policy, particularly regarding US military involvement and strategies concerning Iran. While Carlson maintains that his stances align with his longstanding “America First” perspective, his post-Fox News revenue streams are publicly attributed to private investments, digital subscriptions, advertising partnerships, and independent media productions.

Ultimately, claims connecting his independent media work to multi-million-dollar funding from an Obama-linked enterprise are entirely baseless.
