Social media users have been circulating a rumor claiming that President Donald Trump disparaged The Beatles as the “most overrated band” and accused the media of promoting them as part of a “fake news machine.”
This claim emerged from a purported screenshot of a Truth Social post attributed to Trump. The alleged post stated, “Paul McCartney is an anti-Trump joke. And the Beatles are a total disaster, sad! They were never talented, just a bunch of people screaming into microphones! Very overrated… Maybe the most overrated band in the history of music! I’ve heard better music from my gardener, true story! The media loves them because they are part of the fake news machine! No talent, no energy, just a big, fat hoax! We want real rock and roll, not that weak stuff! Make music great again!.”
While some users believed the post to be authentic, others expressed skepticism, leading to an investigation.
A thorough examination of President Trump’s official Truth Social account and its archives revealed no record of such a statement. Furthermore, there are no credible reports of Trump making similar criticisms of Paul McCartney or The Beatles outside of social media. News and entertainment outlets have also not published any coverage related to this alleged criticism.
The origin of the false claim has been traced to a Facebook account named Zeke Sky, which is known for sharing content critical of Trump. The caption accompanying the screenshot on this page, “People will say this is fake. But believe me it is not not unreal,” ironically suggests the post’s fabricated nature.
In direct communication, the administrator of the Zeke Sky Facebook account confirmed that the post was satire, created by a staff writer using a social media post generator. Therefore, the claim has been classified as ‘satire.’
