Donald Trump momentarily became a focal point during Spain’s FIFA World Cup victory celebrations.
Following the intense FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, a fabricated social media post began circulating, falsely attributing to President Donald Trump the assertion that the World Cup should be renamed the ‘USA Cup’. This claim, presented as a screenshot from his Truth Social account, also included remarks about soccer versus football, his own imagined performance in the game, and a comment about Spain’s historical significance. The supposed post concluded with the disclaimer “NOT DTJ” and a label indicating it was “Made with AI.”
Despite the clear signs of artificial creation, the fake post gained traction online, leading to widespread mockery of the former president.
In reality, no such post from Donald Trump has been found on his official Truth Social account or in archives of his communications. The screenshot itself contains indicators of its fabricated nature, including the explicit “Made with AI” label.
Separately, on Sunday, July 19, Trump’s presence on the podium during Spain’s World Cup trophy presentation drew attention. After awarding medals to the players and presenting the World Cup trophy to Spanish captain Rodri, the President remained on stage with the victorious team. This led to a somewhat awkward moment as FIFA officials gestured for him to step aside, allowing the players their unhindered celebration with the trophy. Trump had attended the match at MetLife Stadium, seated with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and other dignitaries.
