The viral video circulating online is not what it appears to be.
The initial video was traced back to an Instagram user named indore_insight through a reverse image search.
A second video, allegedly featuring the mother of a deceased protester, claims in its audio, “My child had gone to the protest. The police beat him to death. They killed my child.” However, a reverse image search of this video revealed other social media posts with different claims. Crucially, the audio in these other versions differs from the one accompanying the protest narrative.
Further examination of this second video revealed inconsistencies in the speaker’s lip movements, suggesting it was manipulated using AI. In fact, the original upload of this visual content, dated [insert date if available from original text], features a caption identifying the woman as the mother of Major Mohit Sharma (Ashok Chakra), describing his sacrifice and a “quiet, painful human story.”
The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) fact-checking unit has also confirmed the falsity of the claim. They stated that there have been no protest-related fatalities in Delhi and that the video of the woman is an AI-generated deepfake.
Therefore, the assertion that the viral video depicts a protester’s death is inaccurate.
