During remarks at the White House regarding TikTok’s influence and national security, President Donald Trump made a comparison to Taylor Swift. He stated that recent figures ranked him as the number one person on TikTok, with Swift at number eleven.
“It was announced about two days ago, the new numbers just came out. You know who the number one person on Tic Tac is by far? Trump. Me. I’m number one. Taylor Swift was number 11,” Trump said during a press briefing on Monday, July 6. He reiterated his claim of being “by far” the top person on the platform, mentioning that the list showed him at number one by a significant margin.
However, this assertion is not supported by TikTok’s follower data. Publicly available information indicates that Taylor Swift has approximately 33.5 million TikTok followers, while Donald Trump has around 16.6 million. Swift also boasts a considerably higher number of total likes, with about 274.5 million compared to Trump’s approximately 121.8 million.
Furthermore, neither Trump nor Swift appears in the top 10 most-followed accounts on TikTok, a list that includes prominent creators like Khaby Lame and Charli D’Amelio. Swift’s engagement, as measured by total likes, significantly surpasses Trump’s, even with her less frequent posting schedule. Trump did not present any verifiable data or ranking to substantiate his claim.
