Actor Sean Penn is correctly quoted as calling President Donald Trump an “enemy of mankind” and “of the state.”
These words were published in a 2018 opinion piece by Penn in Time magazine. The essay was a response to Trump’s use of the derogatory term “s—hole countries” when referring to Haiti and several African nations. Penn wrote that Trump’s words were “far worse than mere insensitivity or even nationalism.”
The opinion piece, titled “Sean Penn: ‘Donald Trump Is the Enemy of Compassion’,” concluded with the statement: “Indeed, we can be unified not only with each other but with Africa, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, the Middle East and beyond if we recognize President Donald Trump is an enemy of Americans, Republicans, Democrats, Independents and every new child born. An enemy of mankind. He is indeed an enemy of the state.”
Penn also recounted his experience in Haiti following a devastating 2010 earthquake, where he assisted with humanitarian aid efforts by the U.S. Army.
