The New York Post originally broke the news of the assault on May 12, 2024, reporting that Buscemi “was strolling through Kips Bay last week when a brute walked up and struck the ‘Boardwalk Empire’ star in a broad-daylight attack.”
According to contemporary reports, Buscemi “suffered swelling to his face and left eye” and required hospital treatment.

Users quickly added a community note to the post to clarify that the event actually transpired in 2024.
Searches across Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, and Yahoo yielded zero credible news reports regarding any medical emergency or hospitalization for Buscemi in 2026.
In a separate historical incident back in 2001, ABC News reported that Buscemi was hospitalized following a bar altercation in Wilmington, North Carolina, while working on a film production. That report noted he sustained stab wounds to his face, throat, and arm, but was treated in an emergency room and subsequently discharged.
