Don’t fall for video of Amazon delivery robot seemingly driving into ocean

Claim: A viral video circulating in August 2026 allegedly shows an Amazon delivery robot driving off a pier and plunging into the ocean.

Rating: Fake

In August 2026, social media feeds were flooded with a video that purportedly captured an autonomous Amazon delivery robot accidentally driving off a marina pier and into the sea. Captions accompanying the footage—shared across Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, and X—claimed the incident was the result of an “isolated navigation error” that occurred in San Diego.

However, the footage was actually generated using artificial intelligence (AI), a detail explicitly noted by an AI-disclosure label on the original upload.

Why the Video Is Fake

  • Visual Inconsistencies: The robot in the video does not match the actual design of Amazon’s real delivery robot, known as “Scout.” While Scout featured six wheels, the robot in the viral video only has four. Furthermore, while real Scout units had the Amazon Prime logo on their sides, they never featured the logo on their rear end, as seen in the fabricated clip.
  • Geographic Discrepancies: Amazon historically tested Scout in only four specific locations: Everett, Washington; Irvine, California; Franklin, Tennessee; and Atlanta. Irvine is a suburb of Los Angeles, not San Diego, meaning the robot was never even deployed near the alleged incident location.
  • The Technology Was Canceled Years Ago: Amazon officially discontinued the Scout project in 2023, and the company stopped publishing updates about the program as early as June 2022. Even if the video were real footage, it would not depict a current event.
  • Creator Background: The primary source of the video is an Instagram account belonging to Evan Era, a magician known for frequently posting AI-generated content. He applied Instagram’s official AI-generated label to the post, which indicates the software was used to fabricate the visual content.

When contacted for comment, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed that the company halted the Scout program in 2022, that the units possessed six wheels, and that they were never deployed in San Diego. Amazon officially dismissed the video as inauthentic.
